7 reasons why college students need a life coach.

I may be biased, but I think everyone needs a life coach (says the life coach).

Okay but seriously, as a college student, this phase of life often involves significant life changes. A coach can help navigate these transitions more smoothly and focus on your personal growth, helping you develop self-awareness, confidence, and decision-making skills in the season of your life when things are ever-expanding.

We exist mostly in our minds, let’s make them a great place to be. From knowing who you are and what you value, your priorities, coping skills that resonate and work for you, and just having basic emotional intelligence can help relieve a lot of the stress and chaos at this point in your life. These things can launch you into the next chapters in your life, not what keep you stuck rereading old chapters or playing the same motifs, but maybe that analogy reminds you too much of a English 110 GE.

So what does a coach help with?

Goal setting for here and when

Having a coach will help you clarify your goals by asking insightful questions that encourage you to reflect on what truly matters to you. The relationship provides a supportive partnership that enhances your ability to set, pursue, and achieve your goals effectively. No more resolutions dropped a few weeks in. Realistic and attainable and what works for you.

Action planning for every circumstance

As a student, have you struggled with time management? Coaches can assist in breaking down larger aspirations and to-do’s into manageable steps, creating a clear roadmap for achieving them. They can help create alongside you the structure in your life that makes time management, well, more managed.

Accountability when you need it

Regular check-ins with a coach provide accountability, helping you stay committed to your goals and making adjustments as needed, tiny pivots to make you the best you. The very act of speaking into the session and into existence the things that you want is a powerful action.

Skill development to level up your life

Coaches can teach techniques for time management, prioritization, and other skills (include social skills) essential for reaching your goals, getting tasks done, and letting you live a life you’re actively creating (and completely loving!)

Self-discovery to find yourself

Partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process, you find who you authentically are. Mindset work often helps in shift limiting beliefs and foster a positive mindset, which can is crucial for success in any area.

Motivation to reach higher

Coaches can offer encouragement and support, helping you overcome obstacles and stay motivated throughout the process. Don’t get me wrong, this is work! But it is worth it to see the growth and potential at your fingertips. And honestly, it’s really really fun.

Supportive neutral environment when all you need is ears

This one is BIG. Most of the time, you don’t need someone to tell you what they would do if they were you, because they aren’t you and you know the whole story and all the moving pieces. Sometimes you just need space to lay out your thoughts and they can be seen more clearly. No one is picking sides, thank you mom but every time I change my mind- you jump onto whichever side I lean towards? Not super helpful. What is, is having a space where there is literally zero judgment for any offered up ideas or information.

Having a life coach can provide you as a student, individual, entrepreneur, scholar, athlete, and whatever other hats you wear in this crazy phase of life, with the support and guidance you need to thrive during your formative college years and beyond. You are laying the foundation for your life, make sure it is intentionally laid by you for you.

So why a college coach?

Less than the intensity of a therapist, more trusted in advice than a family member, as willing as a friend to listen without any judgment; as a coach, I want to ask the right questions to help you get to the decision you need, sit with uncomfortable feelings and truths, hold you accountable in becoming a better version of yourself, and feel like you are living in your potential, not just reaching it.

Here’s the thing; I am a student too. I know you’re pockets are pinched for groceries and textbooks and that $10/per month gym membership. So here’s my offer: pay what you can, or want, for five sessions.

Yup. Pay what you can. For the first five sessions, and if five sessions is all you want, that’s great!

Either way, I am happy to see you(:
